Bakar writes a “love letter to football” through new single ‘Million Miles’

North London’s Bakar has released his new single ‘Million Miles’, taken from his debut mixtape BADKID.

Born out of a need to create as well as disrupt, BADKID is a snapshot of London life told through Bakar’s own unique perspective.

A highlight from his debut mixtape BADKID, ‘Million Miles’ fuses hip-hop and post-punk and is accompanied by a timely, football themed video premiered by The FADER.

The new clip, features veteran actor Tamer Hassan (L4YER CAKE, The Business, Football Factory) as a football coach and Bakar as one of his prodigies.

The idea for the video was borne out of Bakar and director John Ford Glance’s obsession with a YouTube clip of lower league manager John Sitton.

Bakar said, “This is our love letter to football, an homage to John Sitton.

“We wanted to journey the lower leagues of English football.

“These are the forgotten pockets of London, places on the brink of extinction.”

Bakar’s debut mixtape BADKID is music that could only have been created here and now.

Still a relative newcomer to making music, Bakar’s is uninhibited, not bound by genre or trend.

Though Bakar describes his decision to make music as “accidental”, he’s quickly carving his own niche through his innate musicality and uncompromising approach to creativity.

His music takes his every day experiences to comment on how society as a whole operates for young, galvanised millennials.

Though Bakar takes influence from across Britain’s musical lineage – from indie-rock, to grime, to punk – this is music that could only have been created here and now.

Released last month following breakout festival performances at Live at Leeds and The Great Escape that cemented his place as “Britain’s next great rock’n’roll star” (NME), BADKID has proved a defining moment for Bakar.

He celebrated the release of the EP with an exclusive Stussy t-shirt collaboration, as well as a sold out hometown show at Camden Assembly Hall.

Bakar is set to play Standon Calling festival on Friday July 27th and a new headline tour is soon to be announced.
