Keep up to date with all the music featured on BBC One’s flagship football highlights shows Match Of The Day and Match Of The Day 2 during the 2018-19 season by following and streaming the Match Of The Day playlist on Spotify.
Presented by Gary Lineker and featuring a host of pundits providing analysis, Match of the Day is a staple of Saturday night viewing for football fans up and down the country as they catch up with the highlights from the day’s Premier League fixtures.
Games featuring top flight sides facing off on a Sunday are covered on its sister show MOTD2, presented by Mark Chapman.
The playlist is headlined by the show’s iconic theme music, written and composed specifically for the show by Barry Stoller in 1970. It was recorded by him, a trumpeter, and a drummer in the basement recording studio of his home and is one of the UK’s most recognisable television theme tunes.
Some of the latest tracks from the world’s hottest artists are soundtracked throughout the show during short preview clips highlighting the games coming up, their ‘Goal of the Month’ video package and other sections of the programme.
Artists featured so far this season on Match of the Day include Bring Me The Horizon, Jungle, Kygo, Imagine Dragons, George Ezra, Billy Lockett, Bugzy Malone, The Struts and Baddiel, Skinner & the Lightning Seeds‘ classic England anthem, ‘Three Lions’.
