Watford have only spent a total of 5 full seasons in the Premier League in total, having previously enjoyed two standalone seasons in 1999-00 and 2006-07 before their current streak of 3. The Hornets are now enjoying their sixth season in the Premier League. The club were formed in 1881 as Watford Rovers, and were competing in the FA Cup by 1887.

However, the team were not to reach the Football League until the 1922 season, when they entered its third tier. The club remained between the third and fourth tiers of competition until die-hard Watford supporter Elton John became the club’s chairman in 1976. After the appointment of new manager Graham Taylor, the club’s remarkable form under the new gaffer saw them rocket to within one place of the First Division title by 1982.

The Hornets fell back down to the second tier in 1988, where they remained for all but four seasons until their most recent return to the top tier – and third spell in Premier League – in 2015. Since then, the club have attracted both praise and popularity for their attacking style of football.

You can help spur the Hornets on to their first ever top ten Premier League finish by following the Watford FC fan playlist now!
