Ride To The Geraint Thomas Cycling Playlist


Team Sky road racer and Team GB double Olympic gold medal winner Geraint Thomas (MBE), has curated a Spotify playlist geared towards the long-distance cyclist.

Thomas has enjoyed success both on the track and on the road. On the track he is a former world champion and Olympic gold medalist in the team pursuit in 2008 and 2012. Thomas’ is the current Commonwealth road champion and has tasted success at the 2004 Junior Paris–Roubaix, through to senior victories at the 2010 British National Road Race Championships.

Thomas has also achieved stage race overall victories; the 2011 & 2014 Bayern-Rundfahrt and the 2016 Paris–Nice, as well as winning his first semi-classic, the 2015 E3 Harelbeke.

As a music fan, the 30-year-old Welsh rider has selected tracks to help riders cope with the the pain and monotony of bike training.

Cycling is on the rise, both as a sport and a daily activity. The Active People Survey (APS Statistical Release), based on a much larger sample of the population, suggests that, of people aged 16+ in England (2014/15):

  • 3% cycle five times a week (about 1.3 million people of 16+)
  • 9% cycle at least once a week (about 4 million people of 16+)
  • 15% cycle  at least once per month  (about 6.6 million people of 16+)

  • According to the National Travel Survey, about 7% of the population aged 5+ cycled three or more times a week in 2015. If applied to the whole of Great Britain, this equates to around 4.2 million people of 5+. (NTS 0313).
