Gorillaz share ‘How Far?’ as tribute to legendary drummer Tony Allen

Gorillaz have unveiled ‘How Far?’, featuring Tony Allen and Skepta, the most recent collaboration by Damon Albarn and Tony in a long-running musical relationship and close personal friendship of many years.

The track was written and recorded with Skepta in London just before lockdown and is being shared immediately as a tribute to the spirit of the late Tony Allen, who passed away at the age of 79 on April 31 this year.

“I want to take care of youngsters, they have messages and I want to bring them on my beat.” said Tony prior to his passing.

‘How Far?’ is the latest release as part of their ongoing Song Machine project. It’s the newest concept from one of the most inventive bands around, with Gorillaz disrupting the paradigm all over again.

In direct opposition to the usual traditional recording/single/album release cycle, the band again breaks convention in their own round the back door fashion with the spontaneous delivery of episodes throughout the year.

The first song straight out of Kong was ‘Momentary Bliss’, which saw the iconic band team up with slowthai and Slaves for a glorious start to 2020.

This was followed up by the release of ‘Désolé (feat. Fatoumata Diawara) and ‘Aries (feat. Peter Hook and Georgia)’.
