Idles have shared the first single, ‘Danny Nedelko’, from their forthcoming LP, ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance’ – and you can listen to it on the Fantasy Premier League playlist.
The track by the Bristol 5-piece is a pro-immigration anthem which takes its name from one of the band’s close friends (and Ukrainian immigrant).
Produced by Space and mixed by Adam Greenspan & Nick Launay (Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kate Bush), ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance’ (released August 31 via Partisan Records) takes aim at everything from toxic masculinity, nationalism, immigration, and class inequality – all while maintaining a visceral, infectious positivity.
Idles recently unleashed blistering 2-part album opener, ‘Colossus‘, along with a music video that features cameos from Stone Cold Steve Austin, Fred Astaire, Evel Knievel, Jesus Christ + more.
Having performed at SXSW, Primavera, Latitude, Reading and Leeds, Idles will embark on their first ever global tour, including their biggest London headliner yet at O2 Forum Kentish Town on October 18. Their last headliner in the capital, at Heaven, sold-out nearly six months in advance.
Idles self-released their debut album – ‘Brutalism‘ – last year. That record carried the band to #1 on Spotify’s Viral Chart, saw them open for Foo Fighters at the O2, and landed them on Loud & Quiet, DIY, CRACK, NME, Dork and Radio 6’s album of the year lists.
