KAWALA unveil upbeat anthem of escapism ‘Ticket To Ride’

North London five-piece KAWALA are back with new single ‘Ticket to Ride’, a dreamy slice of upbeat escapism that’s like a soothing balm for troubled times.

A breezy ode to daydreaming of travel to warmer climes, ‘Ticket to Ride’ balances delicate guitar lines and the band’s soaring harmonies with a propulsive, danceable beat, conjuring images of stunning vistas far away.

“We wrote Ticket to Ride simply about our desperate need for escapism” the band explain. “We wanted it to feel daydreamy but also use the imagery of getting on that first train out to show our pursuit for better times. Even though we wrote the song before the current situation, I think it’s something that we can all relate to now more than ever!”

Centered around the core duo of singer Jim Higson and guitarist/singer Daniel McCarthy, KAWALA aren’t your typical band. Their lush sound is cushioned with the pair’s gorgeous harmonies, driven by Daniel’s unique finger-style acoustic guitar playing, and inflected with sounds from genres far beyond the one they inhabit.

Formed in North London by then teenagers Jim and Daniel, the band drawing inspiration from the likes of John Martyn Bombay Bicycle Club, The Staves, Bon Iver and Half Moon Run.

The pair started writing songs together and quickly developed a close musical partnership. As the songs developed, they eventually put together a full band with friends Dan Lee on electric guitar, Reeve Coulson on bass and Ben Batten on drums.
