Listen to hand-picked tracks by Cottagers diehard Linguistics as he takes over the the Fulham FC fan playlist on Spotify.
The UK MC and rapper has been steadily building a name for himself on stage by combining hip-hop lyricism and skilful wordplay with the sheer energy of bass music.
The South-London born artist released his latest EP ‘Self-Medicated’ back in September, with the remix of one of the record’s singles ‘Run’ – by Electronic DJs and producers Hyrbid Minds – having recently been added to Spotify’s Massive Drum & Bass playlist.
Linguistics is the latest artist to take over his club’s playlist, adding nine essential tracks for fellow Fulham fans to listen to get them ready to cheer on Slavisa Jokanovic‘s side in their first season back in the Premier League.
Almost all clubs have more than one song or anthem that fans associate with them, but which one do you identify with your club the most?
I suppose in terms of chants / anthems it would have to be ‘I Love You Fulham”, which is sung to the tune of Andy Williams‘ ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You’. It’s probably one of the first ones I ever heard.
What song takes you back to your earliest memories of watching football when you were a child?
Pretty much any Oasis song reminds me of footy. Thats what I used to listen a lot to as a kid. The ‘Wonderwall’ single was the first CD I ever owned so it got rinsed wherever I was!
Which song reminds you of your favourite memory as a football fan, and what is that memory?
Its a bit obviously but I have really amazing memories of watching England play in Euro ’96 as a kid. I was only seven but ‘Three Lions’ reminds me of one of my favourite goals of all time – Paul Gascoigne against Scotland.
I can remember that whole match like it happened last weekend to be honest. It was amazing.
Who is your favourite player to ever pull on the shirt for your club, and what song always reminds you of them when you hear it?
I mean Fulham have had some amazing players over the years, many that I never got a chance to see play, George Best, Johnny Haynes etc.
I suppose more recently Alexander Mitrovic has become a really important player at the club, so I’d have to say Gala‘s ‘Freed From Desire’. Switched to “Mitro’s on fire” of course!
What song would you pick to be playing in the stadium whilst your team’s players are warming up?
As a hip-hop fan, I would love to see Fulham warming up to ‘Shook Ones’ by Mobb Deep.
What is the last song you’d choose to play in the dressing room to get your side in the zone before they leave to line up in the tunnel?
It would have to be something with energy but something to keep the players in the zone, maybe some liquid D&B. Theres a tune called ’24/7’ by a duo called Pola & Bryson that would work for that I think
Which song, that’s not one of your own, would you pick to be played at home as your team walk out of the tunnel and why?
Chase & Status – “Blind Faith”. I’m sure its been used before, but in terms of
atmosphere that tune is wicked.
On the other hand, if you could choose one of your own songs for your club to walk out of the tunnel to at home, what would it be and why?
My most recent single ‘Run’ I reckon it would work! If anyone reading has the hook up at Craven Cottage, they are welcome to use it whenever they like 😉
What is the song you’d pick to be played at full time for the players and fans to celebrate a win with?
I’d go for Ghostface Killah feat. Trife Da God – ‘Be Easy’
There are countless songs that people associate with football in the UK and around the world, but what is the best football anthem or song of all time?
Boring answer as I’ve already talked about it, but ‘Three Lions‘. Its a catchy as f*** a tune.
