Liam Gallagher once famously listed his priorities as ‘City, kids, wife’. The ‘City’ being in reference to his beloved Manchester City FC. MCFC is the club beloved by Oasis‘ Gallagher brothers, and Liam has long been a passionate supporter of the football club for many years… Often quite vocally. This year he voiced his approval of City appointing Pep Guardiola as their new boss, referring to the Spanish boss as “Sergeant Pep”.
Having regained their Premier League status in the early 2000s, MCFC was purchased in 2008 by Abu Dhabi United Group and has become one of the wealthiest in the world. Since 2011 the club have won six major honours, including the Premier League in 2012 and 2014.
So the Oasis and Beady Eye frontman lives up to his priorities, with this tribute playlist specially selected by the man himself. It features a genre-spanning classic selection of tracks from The Smiths, New Order, The Stone Roses, 808 State, The Happy Mondays, and of course, Oasis. Kicking off with The Fall’s ‘Hit The North Part 1’, this is a set guaranteed to please any die hard MCFC supporter or fan of the iconic Manchester sound of yesteryear.
Last year Liam Gallagher appeared at a pub in Charlestown, County Mayo playing a number of songs, including possibly new material, in front of punters with an acoustic guitar. Though he stated that he has no plans to pursue a solo career, in a 2016 interview with Q Magazine, he officially announced he would be releasing songs in 2017 although he doesn’t consider it a solo career, advising they’re just songs that he has written over the years that he’d like to release.
