Morrissey has announced release of ‘Wedding Bell Blues’, the latest new single to come from his anticipated first-ever covers album California Son.
The track is a frustrated love song about waiting for a proposal from a lover called Bill, which makes it all the more fitting that Morrissey’s rendition features additional vocals from Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstong.
The song was originally written and performed by Laura Nyro in 1966 and made famous by R&B group 5th Dimension in 1969.

‘Wedding Bell Blues’ received a premiere on Ken Bruce’s BBC Radio 2 show.
It will be released physically on the May 10 as a 7” yellow vinyl single with brand new original Morrissey track ‘Brow of my Beloved’ as the B-side. The song was recorded in Rome and is produced by Joe Chiccarelli who also produced the whole of California Son.
‘California Son’ is out on May 24 via BMG and features 12 tracks, including the former Smiths‘ frontman’s take on songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Roy Orbison.
