Get pumped for the first clash between the blue and red halves of Manchester this season with Noel Gallagher’s takeover of the Man City fan playlist on Spotify.
As the current decade draws to a close, one of the Premier League rivalries that’s defined the 2010’s rears its head once more at the start of December, as defending champions Manchester City face off with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
Since the club was bought by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2009, City have slowly but surely asserted their place as one of the teams of the decade, winning three Premier League titles among other accolades. They have also established themselves as the dominant force in the city of Manchester over United, having won 10 of the 19 meetings between the teams in the top flight since the start 2010.
They close the decade with a clash full of stakes at the Etihad, with Pep Guardiola‘s side knowing points dropped could sees them further behind leaders Liverpool in the title race. For United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær a win over their fierce rivals could help put doubts surrounding his future at Old Trafford to bed.
As anticipation begins to build for fans of both sides, Britpop legend and one of the most iconic Citizens, Noel Gallagher, is getting the blue half of the city pumped up for the game with his takeover of the Manchester City fan playlist, which you can listen to now on Spotify below.
Noel’s Ultimate Derby Playlist features a variety of artists to get City fans in the mood for the game wherever you are. His selection includes tunes from the likes of Madchester pioneers Happy Mondays, mod icons The Jam and rock royalty AC/DC. His latest single ‘Wandering Star’, taken from his forthcoming EP, closes out the playlist.
Curating the playlist caps off a packed 2019 for Noel, who has released two highly acclaimed EPs this year with the High Flying Birds. Black Star Dancing was released in June and was followed by This Is The Place in September.
He continues that run of EP releases next year, with his latest record Blue Moon Rising – a nod to his club’s anthem – set to drop on March 6 2020.
Having just finished up a tour run supporting U2 in Australasia with dates across Australia and New Zealand along with their own show in Bangkok, Thailand, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have so far announced five shows for the summer of 2020, including a performance at London’s Kenwood House on June 21.
