Following a storming set at Radio 2 in Hyde Park and the announcement of a huge 2020 Autumn tour, Simply Red today release new soulful-ballad ‘Sweet Child’.
The single is taken from their twelfth studio album, Blue Eyed Soul, which will be released on November 8 on BMG.
Effortlessly soulful, the dreamy string section compliments the catchy guitar riff on ‘Sweet Child’. This coupled with Mick’s instantly recognisable vocal line makes for a classic Simply Red song.

On the track Mick commented, “We (alleged) grown ups should be asking ourselves if we will be leaving this world in better shape for our children than it is for us. So, are we? Or are we failing them?”
Recorded in London at British Grove Studios, all ten tracks were written by Mick Hucknall and produced by long time collaborator Andy Wright.
He’s got blue eyes and a soulful voice, and it’s Hucknall’s remarkable voice that takes centre stage on this record. “I wanted to push my voice a little harder, challenge it a little bit, give myself something to really sing to.”
The results are simply sensational. Recorded as live, with few overdubs, Blue Eyed Soul drew on inspiration from classic funk and soul: Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland and Tower of Power.
