22 years on from the release of the acclaimed original, Leftfield return releasing a remastered version of the now seminal ‘Leftism’ album, duly named Leftism 22 featuring a remix by Skream.
As a taste of things to come, Skream annihilates his remix of ‘Open Up’. A deep, ominous bass groove build under an infectious synth melody, before the enchanting vocals of Sex Pistols’ John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten) elevate the production for a certified club banger!
Listen to the Skream remix now on the Shoot New Release Sport Playlist.
The re-release will include 11 original tracks remixed by a host of artists as well as Skream, including Adrian Sherwood, BodyJack and Voiski.
“There’s a scope and spirit, an energy and a madness to Leftism which’ll make it stay up there, bouncing around in the great echo chamber of futurity” – NME
“It’s hard to overestimate the significance of Leftism, roundly acknowledged upon its release in 1995 as the first truly complete album experience to be created by house musicians and the first quintessentially British one” – Q Magazine
Leftism 22 arrives 22 years on from the release of the acclaimed original, in a remastered version overseen by the band. It will be available in a limited edition 3xLP vinyl, mirroring the original release and will include download codes for the remastered album and new mixes will be included, as well as all 11 original tracks remixed by a host of artists, including Skream, Adrian Sherwood, BodyJack and Voiski.
Leftfield was formed in 1989, before emerging publicly in 1990 with ‘Not Forgotten’, a song that established a template for a new strain of British house leaning away from American styles dominating UK clubs.
Released in January 1995, their debut album Leftism remains one of the defining statements of dance music, a gloriously inter-woven bombardment of musical styles and immaculate grooves, nominated for a Mercury prize and later voted in the top ten greatest albums of all time by readers of Q magazine.
