Reigning champions Leeds Rhinos, along with Hull FC, Huddersfield Giants, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Catalan Dragons, Castleford Tigers, Widnes Vikings, Wakefield Wildcats, Salford Red Devils and Hull KR are battling it out to reach the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 13.
Beginning in 1996, Super League is the top-level professional rugby league club competition in the Northern hemisphere. Involving 11 teams from England and one from France (Catalan Dragons), it replaced the RFL Championship and switched from a winter to a summer season.
After 23 games, the top eight play each other once more, after which the top four enter the play-off series which leads to the Grand Final. The bottom four teams go on to play the top four Championship teams in The Qualifiers to determine who will play in Super League the following season.
Leeds Rhinos, who lost last month’s World Club Challenge 38-4 to Melbourne Storm, have lifted the trophy a record eight times and twice in the past three years.
