Football mad, genre-blending Manchester five-piece Y.O.U.N.G are releasing a rework of live set fan favourite ‘What I Gotta Do’ in celebration of this summer’s football World Cup – and you can listen to it now on the FA Cup Playlist.
Set to a rock/hip-hop head-rocker, the special edition three-track World Cup release sees the alt-pop rap rockers waxing lyrical about their favourite non-music pastime of Pele’s ‘beautiful game’.
Vocalist Chez Davis himself had a rather illustrious trophy laden youth football career, playing for Burnley and Man City youth and scoring four in a match against his beloved Man United.
Chez also holds the goal-scoring record for elite Manchester footballing stable Fletcher Moss Rangers (Jesse Lindgard, Ravel Morrisson, Marcus Rashford, Danny Welbeck) scoring more than 100 in a season with 76 for the A team and 35 in B team matches.
A young Chez had to choose between football and music and, rebellious by nature, he duly chose music, the one thing he loved more than football.
“In later teen years lifestyle choices, going out, girls, and a massively growing love for music made the decision for me. I was perhaps what people would call a maverick player, the ability was there but I didn’t have the desire or discipline to do it day in day out and that’s when I realized that music was always gonna come first,” said Chez.
The band completed their first ever UK headline tour in association with Live Nation earlier this year and will soon announce a run of festival appearances and some head turning supports to run alongside a growing set of summer dates.
Y.O.U.N.G. also performed in the Wembley Stadium fanzone ahead of England’s friendly against Italy in March.
