86TVs continue their flying momentum with the release of their debut EP, You Don’t Have To Be Yourself Right Now, featuring our latest focus track 'Spinning World'.
Stepping confidently into 2024, 86TVs have already caused a buzz after releasing just two singles. The band – featuring former Maccabees duo Hugo and Felix White, their younger brother and solo artist Will White, and drummer Jamie Morrison (Stereophonics, Noisettes) – instigated a first wave of excitement with the first track, ‘Worn Out Buildings’, which was nominated for Radio X’s Record of The Year, while the follow-up, ‘Higher Love’, was playlisted at 6 Music and Absolute Radio with further support from Apple Music 1.
You Don’t Have To Be Yourself Right Now features both previously released singles alongside two brand new tracks, ‘Spinning World’ and ‘Dreaming’, which will amplify the band’s burgeoning reputation. The EP was recorded during sessions split between the band’s own Olympic Studios and The Bunker at 13, owned by Stephen Street (The Maccabees’ Colour It In, Blur, Suede), who produced all four tracks along with the band.

The band commented: “‘You Don’t Have To Be Yourself Right Now’ is our first ever group of songs to sit together in a collection. It feels good. It’s a fitting place to start – three of us brothers writing lyrics from different perspectives, lots of group singing, guitars, drums, pianos and about six or seven years of our lives all wrapped up in there!”
Although the idea of the band started shortly after The Maccabees signed off at their absolute peak, 86TVs first played shows in 2022 as special guests to Jamie T – an experience that took them back to their early days of arriving to open a gig as an unknown force and having to pull out all the stops to win over new audiences. They then played a run of sold-out headline shows and select festival dates in 2023 to coincide with the release of ‘Worn Out Buildings’.
The band have already demonstrated their live powers, with their rousing, four-part vocal harmonies, uplifting spirit and driving energy standing out in their ‘Higher Love’ session video filmed at Empire Studios and their Reading Festival performance which was captured by the BBC. They also made their live TV debut with a frenetic performance of ‘Worn Out Buildings’ on ‘Sunday Brunch’.
Having just been named as one of the new artists that 6 Music are championing across Independent Venue Week, 86TVs will play their first show of 2024 as part of the event in Edinburgh on January 30th. They will then embark upon a bigger UK and Ireland headline tour from late February which has already seen several shows sell-out months in advance.
