Alt-rock trio False Heads continue their trajectory with the release of second album Sick Moon today and sharing focus track 'Cottonmouth'.
Leading the charge of the new Frank Turner-produced LP, ‘Cottonmouth’ is as catchy as it is caustic: blending barbed punk energy with infectious melodies and energetic earworm choruses. Barrelling towards an explosive guitar breakdown, the track blends fuzzy riffs with muffled, metallic drum beats and pop-punk-esque vocals to create a virulent rock tirade that captures False Heads at their highly-charged best.
Speaking of the new track, frontman Luke Griffiths says: “’Cottonmouth’ is about the constant conflict of giving into your nihilism and fighting it: both serve a purpose. Cottonmouth is what happens after you take too many drugs — same as nihilism and being a curmudgeon. I think it can help you see things as they really are sometimes, but other times you can’t give into it as you would be mentally and socially crippled 24/7.”

A testament to the band’s riotous musicianship and knack for making a scathing statement about the world around them, ‘Cottonmouth’ joins previous singles ‘Haunted Houses (feat. Frank Turner)’, ‘Thick Skin’, ‘Day Glow’ and ‘Mime The End’ on the band’s new ten-track LP Sick Moon.
Inspired by the feeling that “the external world often seems to parallel and affect your internal struggles”, the record was born partly out of frontman Luke’s frustration at the music industry over the past few years. “Rock and pop music have become an endeavour for kids from super-rich families, or with parents already in the industry,” he says.
A record that grapples with these bigger ideas, as well as Luke’s own personal battles, the vocalist adds of the album: “The album is just a pure expression of everything I’ve felt and feel. It’s pure rage, isolation, and alienation, yet also sarcastic and hopefully sprinkled with a bit of humour. It’s a stream of consciousness I used to deal with my struggles with depression, insomnia, anxiety, and issues with substance abuse.”
False Heads are Luke Griffiths (guitar/vocals), Jake Elliot (bass) and Barney Nash (drums). Having taken the UK by storm after their formation in 2015, the Essex outfit have gained an incendiary live reputation after playing with the likes of The Libertines, Josh Homme and Band of Skulls.
