Alewya shares deep cut ‘Eshi’ from forthcoming debut album

Critically acclaimed London-based Ethiopian-Egyptian artist and curator Alewya shares, ‘Eshi’, a deeper cut from her forthcoming debut album, ZERO, released via Because London Records.

Produced alongside Boddhi Satva, Craigie Dodds and Dean Barrett, ‘Eshi’ unfolds as an extension of Alewya’s evolving sonic world, adding new depth and texture to the universe she continues to build. Rooted in heritage, the track weaves Ethiopian instrumentation called Masenqo, which gradually intensifies and builds towards a powerful, expansive and chant-led crescendo.

The accompanying video, creatively directed and produced by Yonas Tadesse, Frehiwot Berhane, Tedos Teffera and Alewya, was shot in Lalibela, Ethiopia, during the celebration of Gena. The beautifully captured visuals reinforce a strong sense of community and culture, both of which are central and defining forces within Aleway’s artistry.

When speaking about the track, Alewya said: “Eshi is rooted in tradition but unbound by it too, which is one of the pillars of ZERO”

‘Eshi’ not only represents one of the key pillars of ZERO but the auditory landscapes that define Alewya. She has cemented herself as one of the most distinctive and vital voices redefining global sound today.

With her forthcoming album ZERO, Alewya embodies years of artistic growth into a debut that is deeply personal and sonically expansive. Standing at the forefront of a new creative era, defined by fearless experimentation and cultural fluidity, she steps fully into her power. Set to arrive this summer, on June 26, ZERO marks a significant and unmissable milestone for one of London’s most compelling voices.

The singer, producer and visual creative’s work bridges continents and disciplines. Raised in West London, she represents a new generation of artists redefining global music – rooted in heritage yet unbound by it. Describing herself as a painter who makes music, Alewya approaches sound as texture and feeling, guided more by intuition than structure.

What started as painting and graffiti evolved into animation and eventually music, where Alewya began producing her own beats to bring her visual world to life. In 2021, she released her debut project Panther in Mode, which introduced her as a fearless new voice in the UK alternative music scene, earning critical acclaim for its fusion of Afro-electronic percussion, and striking visual identity. Since then, Alewya has captivated audiences through a COLORS performance , a collaboration with Moses Boyd, and live appearances at Pitchfork Paris, Glastonbury, Meltdown, and on tour with Little Simz.
