Midlands quartet overpass show a different side to their style as they share their brand new single, ‘Heaven’, taken from their eagerly anticipated debut album Elsewhere, Always - out on June 5.
The song captures both sides of the overpass spectrum: on one hand the romanticism and the unbridled optimism that comes with youth, but channelled through a song with the maturity, elegiac beauty and crossover potential that comes with their arena-facing ambition. Max Newbold’s falsetto exudes yearning and vulnerability, in the process echoing the emotive power of Jeff Buckley. The song is accompanied by a live performance video, captured at Fazeley Studios in Digbeth.
Max says, “This song is about the push and pull of a relationship. The couple have a deep connection but keep drifting apart, still trying to bring it together and rescue it. It’s hopeful and vulnerable, but also self-aware — acknowledging the cycles of running and hiding even as it pleads for a different ending. This felt like a real mature kind of song, the chord progression always reminded me of Jeff Lynne’s ‘Telephone Line’ and Burt Bacharach.”

‘Heaven’ closes the album on a high, with the optimism that perhaps everything will be alright. The album’s dominant theme is one of stepping into adulthood without a clear plan as to what comes next: indecision, early life mistakes and a feeling of wanting to be somewhere better, both literally and metaphorically.
From playing two sold-out headline tours in 2025 and touring with Wunderhorse, The Wombats and The Amazons; next wave indie-rock hopes overpass have been raising the bar in 2026, with Radio 1, Radio X, NME and Dork supporting the band with previous tracks ‘Union Station’ and ‘Sandman’.
The band’s touring plans for the year ahead expand with every passing week. First up is a run of shows with The Royston Club, before they celebrate the release of Elsewhere, Always with an intimate record store tour in the week following its release.
Summer brings a growing schedule of festival dates, both at home and abroad, before their full-scale headline tour gets underway in October.
