Southampton band Regent have penned their latest sonic ode to the beautiful game, new single, 'The Best of Things'.
The four-piece have always found a way to fuse their football fanaticism with their love for rock and roll, and their latest single is no exception. ‘The Best of Things’ pairs glorious guitar riffs with fond reminiscence on the summer of 1966 – the year England took home the World Cup title for the first and only time. Vying for another long-awaited win this year, vocalist Ben Rooke declares, “I want more,” over infectious melodies.
“I wrote the song for England and the World Cup,” he explains of the new track, “I didn’t want it to be cheesy, I wanted it to be punk, rock and pop. A cheeky, naughty version of an anthem as opposed to the typical ‘Three Lions’ type track.” The new single follows the anthemic ‘Be in That Number’, which arrived late last year as a tribute to the band’s beloved Southampton FC.

The band played pitch-side at Southampton’s home, St Mary’s Stadium, last December, playing four tracks ahead of a home game against Birmingham City.
