Stadium DJ of the Week #63 – DJ Prymtime (FC Cincinnati)

Welcome back to ‘Stadium DJ Of The Week’, where in each issue we put 10 serious and not so serious quick-fire questions to a stadium DJ from the world of sport! This week we sat down for a chat with FC Cincinnati’s DJ Prymtime.

The Interview

SM: When did you begin DJ’ing for FC Cincinnati?

DP: This is my third season with FC Cincinnati. I started in 2021 after the pandemic.

SM: How did you initially get into the role?

DP: A friend of mine, DJ Bandcamp, is the official DJ for the NBA team, the Indianapolis Pacers. Bandcamp served as my mentor in sports entertainment. I would go to games with him, help him carry equipment into the stadium, help him set up, and just watch his process throughout a game. In 2021 FC Cincinnati opened a new stadium and I saw an opportunity to enhance the match day experience. I approached a friend of mine who just happened to be the play-by-play broadcaster for FC Cincinnati and he connected me with the club. And the rest is history!

SM: Can you remember your first soccer game/stadium experience as a kid?

DP: I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. We don’t have any professional sports teams in Kentucky, so we treat our college sports teams like a professional team. I remember my father taking me to American football games as a child. We would park far away from the stadium and on our way walking to the stadium I vividly remember seeing fans tailgating, I remember the smells of barbecues and then walking into the stadium – all the fans wearing the same colors, fans screaming and cheering for their team, the marching band playing music and two teams trying to win the game.

SM: In your time with Cincinnati, who’s the best player you’ve seen play for the team?

DP: Easily, Lucho Acosta. I call him the magician because he does things on the pitch that just blows your mind. His vision, his craftiness, his leadership and his love for the game and winning are evident every time he walks out onto the pitch. As great of a player he is, he’s an even better human being!

SM: Who is your favourite artist/band of all time?

DP: This is such a hard question for me to answer because I love so much music. I’ll give you 5 of my favorite artist, in no particular order. Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, THE OLD Kanye West & Coldplay.

SM: Which piece of music do you think is the ultimate track for motivating a soccer team?

DP: Our unofficial song for FC Cincinnati is Baila Conmigo by Dayvi and Victor Cardenas. I play this song before the first kick and right before the second half starts. It gives me chills just thinking about it. 25,513 fans all standing up, loud, clapping, and dancing.

SM: Do you have an all-time favourite track that you play at Cincinnati games?

DP: Easily, Baila Conmigo!

SM: What are the main songs used week in, week out in your sets?

DP: Each match is very different. Through the season we have different themes for matches. We’ll have a Latin night, a childhood cancer night, Pride night, Salute to Service night, etc… so the music for each night is differently. I play a lot international music and a lot of uptempo EDM.  We do have a few songs that I use for every match – I play Seven Nation Army during our player introductions, I play War Pigs (the T-Pain version) as signal that kickoff is coming, of course Baila Conmigo right before kickoff and our win song is Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

SM: On a final note, are there any funny mishaps/cock-ups that have taken place that come to mind when you think about your career so far?

DP: Thankfully (knock on wood), so far nothing major has happened. Just the typical equipment malfunction.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Prymtime for taking the time to talk to us. We wish him and all of Cincinnati’s players, staff and supporters the very best.
