Welcome back to ‘Stadium DJ Of The Week’, where in each issue we put some serious and not so serious quick-fire questions to a stadium DJ from the world of sport! This week we sat down for a chat with the DJ for this weekend’s North London Derby, Amy Lauren.

The Interview
SM: When did you begin DJ’ing in stadiums?
AL: I think 2019 was the first time I was asked to play at Tottenham! It was the first time I’d ever played a stadium, at the time I’d only ever played in bars and clubs.
SM: How did you initially get into the role?
AL: I was a resident DJ at Essex uni, we had Martin 2 Smooth booked as our headliner. I did a good job as a warm up DJ and we got chatting after, my love for Spurs must have come up in conversation because a few months later he kindly recommended me to Andy Purnell who was looking for new DJs at Spurs for Hat Trick Creative who supply all the incredible entertainment for match days!
SM: Can you remember your first football match/stadium experience as a kid?
AL: When I was 10 my dad took me to my first game at Spurs, I really enjoyed it but sadly there wasn’t much support and inclusion at the time for girls and women in football, it wasn’t until I attended another match in 2016 I found my love for the club, the atmosphere of the fans was next level! It was that day I knew I wanted to be apart of something great and I haven’t missed a match since.
SM: Would you say your first experience of live football and the memories of that day were motivation for taking on your role at the club?
AL: DJ’ing and Football are such male heavy dominated industries, sometimes it’s hard to feel accepted. When I was asked to play at Spurs I was so excited! I thought wow I could really set an example here for women that football is a safe and diverse space. I love the club and how they push for diversity and equality, nothing makes me prouder than seeing the LGBTQ+ flag hanging proudly in the ground, it goes to show how far everything has come since my first experience in football.
SM: In your time at Tottenham Hotspur, who’s the best player you’ve seen play live?
AL: No doubt Harry Kane, he’s a hero on and off the pitch and a real inspiration, I feel so privileged to have seen him play.
SM: Who is your favourite artist/band of all time?
AL: I don’t have a favourite artist or band as I like a lot of music from a lot of different artists but when I was younger the first band I loved and really connected with was the Spice Girls, they absolutely changed the game not just with music but with girl power!
SM: Which piece of music do you think is the ultimate track for motivating a football team?
AL: Hands down Gala – Freed From Desire has become the ultimate football anthem, it’s a great track and the crowd always goes mad! But sometimes I like to play less obvious choices and my edit of SL2 – On A Ragga Tip goes down well.
SM: Do you have an all-time favourite track that you play at Tottenham games?
AL: This is a really hard question! I love house music and have a whole folder of favourites! It includes new stuff from the last year and 90s dance classics so I couldn’t pick one sorry!
SM: What are the main songs used week in, week out in your sets?
AL: Digging into my folder of favourites Armand van Helen – Want Your Soul is a classic I play a lot at the ground, Grenno put out a remix of it this year and it’s quickly becoming my new match day anthem!
SM: On a final note, are there any funny mishaps/cock-ups that have taken place that come to mind when you think about your career so far?
AL: Haha there’s been loads! The most embarrassing stand out one for me was accidentally getting quite drunk and I finished my set with Vengaboys – We Like To Party. The crowd went mad, the lights came on.. time for everyone to leave and I thought I’ll reload it and play it one more time. Fast forward to the next morning, I had no Idea how I got home but when I checked my phone I had an angry message from the manager saying I can’t believe you reloaded the Vega Boys 8 times after we closed! Safe to say I was never rebooked but a valuable lesson learnt.
