Scotland’s worst-kept secret, Dylan John Thomas, returns with brand new single, ‘Heaven Knows You’re Lonely’.
Offering another glimpse into Dylan’s evolving sonic world, ‘Heaven Knows You’re Lonely’ strips things back to the essentials, anchored by the gravitational pull of his unmistakable vocal and longstanding relationship with the acoustic guitar. Gritty, raw and emotionally charged, the track marks another bold step forward for one of Scotland’s most compelling voices.
Speaking about the new track, Dylan says, “The song was born out of fingerpicking lead lines in an alternate tuning. Knopfler and Buckingham were guitarists I listened to growing up, always admired the way it would sound like there were two people playing their parts.”

The release follows previous single ‘Got You On My Mind’, a sunlit anthem weaving banjo, carousing brass blasts and retro-futureproof singalong songwriting into something built for festival fields. Specifically, being on your friend’s shoulders at the main stage, belting from the top of your lungs, “I have got you on my mind! Got your love all the time!”
Recently, Dylan showcased the strength of his live vocal on ‘Got You On My Mind’ with a stripped-back performance video directed by Nicholas Afchain. In an intimate setting, Dylan and his band allow the song room to breathe, with stunning results. He now follows it with a live version of ‘Heaven Knows You’re Lonely’ filmed at an iconic Glasgow venue.
Performing is where Dylan John Thomas has honed his craft and truly thrives. He previously sold out six nights at Glasgow’s iconic Barrowland Ballroom, alongside a homecoming show at the 14,500-capacity OVO Hydro Arena. Now, after his longest break from the stage, Dylan and his band of mates are raring to go and get back on the road.
Last Friday marked another major milestone, as Dylan returned home for one of his biggest performances yet at TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow, where he sat third from the top of Friday’s bill, joining a standout lineup featuring Wolf Alice and Richard Ashcroft. For an artist whose rise has been built from grassroots gigging to arena support slots and sold-out hometown shows, the slot cements Dylan John Thomas as one of Scotland’s defining new voices.
Continuing the festival circuit across the summer, Dylan has just been announced for Leeds Festival, while also gearing up for appearances at Kendall Calling and Victorious Festival, with more live dates to be announced very soon.
