London-based Ethiopian-Egyptian artist and curator Alewya announces details of her debut album, ZERO, alongside the project’s second single, ‘City of Symbols’.
With her signature weave of Ethiopian rhythms and underground London beats, ‘City of Symbols’ is as sonically rich as it is vocally captivating. With drums by eejebee and guitar by Vraell, the track reveals Alewya at her most vulnerable, yet her delivery is confident and intentful as she reflects on heritage, family and the passions that continue to shape her. It’s a striking and immersive track, that further establishes Alewya as a boundary-pushing, globally resonant artist, whilst offering a glimpse into the sound and spirit of ZERO – a bold, intricate, genre-defying body of work born from a personal rebirth and a deep exploration of identity and culture.
Alewya co-produced ZERO with long-term collaborators Craigey Dodds and Dean Barrett plus Busy Twist on some tracks with Shy Fx serving as executive producer. The album is set for release on June 26 via Because London Records.

When speaking about the forthcoming debut album, Alewya said: “Zero is the beginning, middle and end. Zero is infinity’s twin.”
Blending emotional depth with genre-defying production, Alewya cements herself as one of the most distinctive and vital voices redefining global sound today. Her ethos is rooted in authenticity, culture, and spirit and her philosophy is simple – she’s not trying to be understood, but to understand herself through expression.
With ZERO, Alewya embodies years of artistic growth into a debut that is deeply personal and sonically expansive. Standing at the forefront of a new creative era, defined by fearless experimentation and cultural fluidity, she steps fully into her power. Set to arrive this summer, ZERO marks a significant and unmissable milestone for one of London’s most compelling voices.
