Buzzy London band Flat Party have released their new single 'I'm Bored, Give Me Love', along with an entertaining, flat-party-themed video.
‘I’m Bored, Give Me Love’ teases the band’s first body of work, due to surface in 2024 on Submarine Cat Records, and arrives ahead of the band’s first UK headline tour in November and December. A rollicking 3 minute blast switching gears between ebullient art-pop and searing indie-rock, Flat Party’s new single was produced by renowned London producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, Black Country New Road, Sorry).
Of the new single, the band’s lead vocalist Jack Lawther said: “The inspiration for ‘I’m Bored’ came about when we were all still at university, and I was down in Brighton visiting friends (possibly for pride). Around this time, I was dealing with my first breakup and drinking a lot and I fancied a bartender at one of the pubs we were at. I was also completely clueless as to what to do with this feeling, so I just kept getting more drunk and that was basically my night. Musically the song came about very quickly, I must’ve written it in about twenty-minutes or so, which is probably the reason it turned out pretty loose and scrappy. It’s really not that deep, it’s just a horny song for horny people.”

On the song’s accompanying video, director and the band’s drummer Zander said: “The video is based around the contrasting nature of the track itself. We tried to reflect this by creating and breaking the illusion of the window set, using it to bridge the gap between the mundanity within the lyrics and the chaotic energy of the instrumental. And of course had to throw a flat party in there… it’s our first vid, we couldn’t not.”
Led by Jack Lawther and guitarist/vocalist Rory O’Rourke, the pair met whilst studying in Bath, before moving to London in 2021 where the long-held vision for Flat Party sprang to life. Moving between jagged art-rock and crooning sixties-tinged pop, Flat Party – who have now evolved into a captivating six piece, completed by Nic Morris (bass) Dylan Tarayan-Bibbs (guitar), Zander Hearn (drums), and Tom Hunt (keys) – are adamant they do not want to be pigeonholed. With collective influences ranging from Big Star and Suede to Sparks, Japanese Breakfast and David Bowie, Flat Party’s music and overriding ethos is rooted in escapism.
Flat Party self-released their debut single ‘Fish’ towards the end of 2022 – an agitated slice of modern art-rock, before blistering second single ‘Dig Up Concrete With A Plastic Shovel’ arrived, further enhancing their reputation with notable hat tips from CLASH and DIY Magazine. In recent months the band have followed up that initial wave of excitement with a full schedule of touring and festivals with live appearances alongside FEET, Walt Disco, Goat Girl, Tommy Lefroy, Mystery Jets and more.
