In "Music meets Football", we speak to some of our artists about their love of the beautiful game and the teams they support. Our latest feature is with Nick True of The Horn.
The bassist of the up-and-coming band is a supporter of North London side Arsenal. Completed by Jonny Taylor (voice, guitar), Danny Monk (guitars, programming), Nick True (bass), Ed Cox (keyboards) and Alex Moorse (drums), The Horn are dedicated to making joyful noise in an increasingly joyless world. With a collective belief that the best way to fight the doom is to dance through it, their sounds is one that should appeal to fans of Britpop and the Madchester-era bands that came before them.
The London quintet recently released their brand new single, ‘Something You Forgot’. Arriving in the midst of their October tour dates supporting The Boomtown Rats, the track is packed with blissed-out indie rock and an understated swagger, which you can listen to on North London Forever – our unofficial Arsenal playlist.
Sport Playlists: Tell us about how you became a fan of Arsenal.
Nick True: It began in the playground at seven years old playing for Arsenal v Spurs. My dad was a Spurs fan and I used to go there with him, so a great decision made in the long run!
SP: What are your earliest memories of attending an Arsenal game.
NT: I was eight when we went to a game at Highbury against Everton for a classmate’s birthday party. We were sat in the East upper and the game finished 0-0 – it was a religious moment walking through the gangway to see the stadium.
SP: Who were your footballing heroes growing up – whether that be Gunners or otherwise?
NT: Jimmy Greaves when he was at Spurs pre-seven-years-old. When I started supporting Arsenal, it was Charlie George, Charlie Nicholas and Dennis Bergkamp.
SP: Did you ever have any aspirations about becoming a professional footballer when you were a child? If so, how far did they go towards becoming a reality?
NT: Yes, I was a good right winger. My dad arranged a trial for me at QPR, but I was too shy to go.
SP: What’s the best moment been in your time supporting Arsenal?
NT: Winning the league unbeaten at White Hart Lane in 2004. My banner “Arsene Knows” is now iconic from that game.
SP: What are your thoughts on how the 25/26 season has gone so far, and what are your hopes for the rest of the season?
NT: We have a great squad and manager. It’s in our hands to win the league in this, our 100th consecutive season in the top division.
SP: Who are your favourite players in the current Gunners squad?
I love them all, really! Bukayo Saka is fantastic of course, but they all are.
SP: How important has the crossover between music and football been in your life?
NT: It’s my two loves in life and I always talk about both – to me they are one!
SP: What song do you associate with a cherished footballing memory?
The 1971 song ‘Good Old Arsenal’. It’s the song that was and still is with me from childhood.
SP: If you had to pick one The Horn song for Arsenal to walk out to before kick-off at the Emirates Stadium, which one would it be?
NT: Has to be our last single, ‘What’s The Score’ of course! I partially wrote it for the Arsenal.
SP: You’ve just released your latest single ‘Something You Forgot’. Tell us a bit about the song and the inspirations behind it.
NT: Jonny wrote this one, brought it in and I tweaked a few words and wrote the second verse about my nights out in London and then Jonny tweaked that. Sometimes i bring a song in and Jonny tweaks it with Danny. It’s a great production line, we are very prolific!
SP: What plans do you have in store for the rest of 2025 that fans can look forward to?
We have so many songs recorded to come out and an album all done for release sometime before next summer. We’re also on tour as main support to the fabulous Boomtown Rats this month – a real privilege.
