She’s In Parties announce debut EP and share ‘L Word’ single

Essex quartet She’s In Parties share their second single of the year, ‘L Word’, alongside the announcement of their debut EP End Scene - out October 6 via Submarine Cat Records.

The track arrives along with a romantic accompanying video. The track succeeds the soft and sprightly ‘Summer Haze’, as well as their BBC Radio 6 Music playlisted singles ‘I Follow You’ and ‘Cherish’.

The band will embark on a series of live dates upon the release of EndScene, consisting of a launch show on the day of the EP release at Three Wise Monkeys in Colchester, a support slot on Bleach Lab’s November tour and concluding with three headline shows which includes a show at London’s Third Man Records on November 17.

Haunting, coy and vulnerable, ‘L Word’ is an incredibly intimate look into vocalist Katie Dillon’s private thoughts surrounding her hesitations with love. Soaring, reverb-doused vocals, oscillating lyricisms and howling riffs immaculately compliment her fears towards opening up to loved ones about her feelings. “This song is personal to me”, she candidly states, “and quite frankly lays all the emotion down right in front of your ears and eyes. I’m not known for verbally saying “I love you” to the people I love.”

She confesses that love puzzles her somewhat, however, not knowing if her feelings are true. Sometimes she doesn’t know if she’s “in love” or if there’s simply a reluctance to relinquish that relationship when she knows it so well, because “letting go is just too hard”. The video, directed by Leon Brinkley, further presents the notion of toeing the line between romance and conflict, with hazy rosy and mauve party scenes contrasting with solo darkened shots of the lone, lovelorn protagonists.

A “coming of age” motif flows freely through She’s In Parties’ debut EP, End Scene. The four piece wanted to construct a record that’s influenced by the idea of a final, reflective monologue scene in a movie, and “would fit nicely in an 80’s coming of age film like The
Breakfast Club”, but with their own generational twist to it. The listener can expect quintessential developmental milestones interwoven throughout the listening experience, with themes centering platonic and romantic relationships, mental health battles, illicit
substance experimentation and more.

She’s In Parties are a hazy and ethereal quartet whose own idiosyncratic amalgamation of shoegaze and dream-pop belies their relatively young years. The band is led by 20-year-old Irish-born frontperson Katie Dillon (vocals/guitar), alongside her friends Herbie Wiseman
(guitar), Matt Carman (drums), and Charlie Johnson (bass). Taking their cues from the likes of Slowdive, Cocteau Twins and The Cure, the band harbour a sense of nostalgia certainly, but they avoid feeling derivative. Instead, they succeed in marrying the classic and the contemporary, resulting in an aesthetic that’s both haunting, and effortlessly cool.

Throughout the year, the band have been rapidly building momentum to become a serious one-to-watch band for 2023. They’ve played to packed out rooms across the country, including festival shows at Live at Leeds and Tenement Trail, as well as playing support tours with The Lathums and Oscar Lang. The band also played The Great Escape First Fifty showcase and were recently longlisted for this year’s Glastonbury Emerging Competition.
