Liverpudlian group SPINN unveil ‘I Would Call You…’ single

Merseyside indie rock outfit SPINN release their latest single 'I Would Call You (But I Never Know What To Say)'.

Released via Modern Sky, ‘I Would Call You (But I Never Know What To Say)’ is the first new music from the quartet since the release of their sophomore album Outside Of The Blue in 2022.

Comprised of Jonathon Quinn on vocals, Andy Power on guitar, Sean McLachlan on bass and backing vocals, and Louis O’Reilly on drums, SPINN have been friends since school, forming in 2015. They channel the jangly ’80s sounds of Orange Juice, the Smiths, Echo & the Bunnymen and the Cure into catchy, melodic tunes.

Listen to ‘I Would Call You (But I Never Know What To Say)’ by SPINN on the Everton Official Playlist on Spotify.

Well-known local favourites, their debut EP, self-released in 2017, attracted widespread attention and led to licensing deals in the U.S. and Japan. They released their eponymous debut album in their early 20’s eschewing any attempts at being “cool” in favour of simply writing good pop songs.

They returned with their staggering second album Outside Of The Blue, produced in the infamous Parr Street Studios in Liverpool. Packaged with a vibrant visual world created by guitarist Luke Brickett and designer Marnie Cox, the album’s artwork references some of their key external references – books and films. Notably, the album’s most obscure love song, ‘Stargazing’, draws on the narrative of 2014 horror flick A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night where a reclusive vampire falls for one of the villagers she’s been terrorising.

They have had support from Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, and John Kennedy on the radio, whilst also seeing support online from a host of tastemaker outlets. Spotify has also taken the band under its wing, as they have been playlisted on The Indie List, as well as, reaching two million streams on their single, ‘Notice Me’.

The band are massive Everton fans, and got the chance to play some of their tracks live at Goodison Park ahead of the release of Outside Of The Blue.
