The Interview
SM: When did you begin DJ’ing for Ohio State?
BD: I began DJing at OSU in the Fall of 2019. I mainly focus on Football, but also fill-in to DJ for OSU Men’s/Women’s Basketball, Men’s/Women’s Hockey, Softball, & Men’s Lacrosse.
SM: How did you initially get into the role?
BD: I was DJing for the Columbus Clippers AAA Baseball team when the announcer introduced me to the Associate Athletic Director at Ohio State. From what I was told during my interview, Ryan Day (just hired as Ohio State Football Head Coach) was attending a Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Game and I am also the Live Warmup DJ for those games. He apparently liked the atmosphere I created and said that he wanted to warmup his team like that. So, the Associate Athletic Director that I met a month earlier called me up and offered me the job after a brief interview.
SM: Can you remember your first American football game/stadium experience as a kid?
BD: Growing up in Indiana, I never experienced anything close to the atmosphere of an Ohio State home football game. However, my first professional sporting event was when my Dad took me to a Chicago Cubs game when I was around 8 years old. I have also played several sports my entire life. So, I’ve always surrounded myself in the sporting atmosphere and went to college to become a Sports Broadcaster. While I working in television didn’t work out, having that production experience has helped immensely with DJing sporting events.
SM: In your time with Ohio State, who’s the best player you’ve seen play live?
BD: It could be because he’s the freshest in my mind, but Marvin Harrison Jr. is the best receiver I have ever seen in person. I’m excited to see him make a name for himself in the NFL.
SM: Who is your favourite artist/band of all time?
BD: That’s an extremely tough question, because it depends on my mood. However, if I had to pick one band, it’d probably be Pearl Jam. I’m a sucker for 90’s alternative.
SM: Which piece of music do you think is the ultimate track for motivating an American football team?
BD: I generally pull what I believe is the best song from the players request list. This season, we chose Sexxy Red – SkeeYee and they seem to respond well to that.
SM: Do you have an all-time favourite track that you play at Ohio State games?
BD: During the game, when we need a big stop on defense, we hit Sheck Wes – Mo Bamba and that seems to hype up the players. The fans also know that’s their cue to get extremely loud.
SM: What are the main songs used week in, week out in your sets?
BD: That’s tough. I try to change up my sets from week to week. I will say for the players, I love dropping anything by Meek Mill, Us vs. Them by Quavo/Takeoff/Gucci Mane, fukumean by Gunna, and various tracks by Trippie Redd, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, & Lil Baby. For fans, I like most tracks from Pitbull, I Love It – Icona Pop, Lil Boo Thang – Paul Russell, & Dance The Night – Dua Lipa
SM: On a final note, are there any funny mishaps/cock-ups that have taken place that come to mind when you think about your career so far?
BD: Not really a mistake, but we play a very violent game of knockerball during our first timeout of the 3rd quarter. About halfway through the season, I started the competition by trolling the crowd with Minnie Riperton – Lovin’ You and then slam into P.O.D – Boom when the competitors crash into eachother for the first time. Then I do a mini mix of several other “Boom” themed songs throughout the rest of the game. I always get a good crowd response at that first slam.
