The Howlers unveil ‘Nothing To Lose’ alongside details about new EP

Desert rock trio The Howlers have shared their first new single of 2022, the euphoric juggernaut 'Nothing To Lose'.

Inspired by hip-shaking genres like soul and Motown, the track is a melting pot of warm and nostalgic sounds blended with fiery and fresh tones, and it was ultimately vocalist Adam Young’s foray into the back catalogue of tambourine player Norman Whitfield, most notable for his driving percussion on tracks with Edwin Starr, which led to the creation of ‘Nothing To Lose’ first and foremost.

Elaborating on the concept, he explains, “I wanted to write a track that had elements of soul sprinkled throughout and to capture that energy that soul music conveys to the listener, but in our own unique way. The track is about exactly what the title suggests, going for broke so to speak.”

“We were always told as kids if you want something make it yours. Things don’t always go your way but as long as you keep trying, what have you got to lose? Because the fear of failure is already failure there’s no two ways about it.”

Boasting artwork by Brian Cannon (Oasis, The Verve), the images captured at a Soul All Nighter in Wigan, 2012, lend themselves perfectly to the sound and themes The Howlers are conveying with this new project.

The single comes alongside the announcement of the band’s second EP ‘Further Down The Line’, a collection of four tracks which evidence a leap in maturity sonically, whilst still staying true to the trademark Howlers musicality. Produced by Chris Ostler and Tommy Taylor from Black Honey and mastered by Felix Davis (Lana Del Rey, Easy Life, Public Access TV) at Metropolis Studios.

Landing later this autumn, it’s the London-based trio’s most accomplished work to date.
