86TVs unveil 'Apple Tree', one of three new tracks on the newly released deluxe edition of their self-titled debut album.
‘Apple Tree’ is a bluesy, garage-rock track that possesses a playful naivety that makes it feel like a lost cut from the ‘60s. The track is accompanied by a video made by band collaborator Louise Mason. As Will White notes: “We wanted to make a video in the weird world of Bob Humm, his puppets and have Jamie in it too.” The band channelled both’s eccentricities into a video that punctuates the playfulness in the song. “Bob makes bizarre and brilliant full scale puppets of himself, horses and strange beings. Somehow it felt right for all that to accompany ‘Apple Tree’.”
On the song itself, Will continues: “I wrote it one morning literally swinging on a hammock and hanging out with my one year old nephew Cass,” and of its content, “It’s two chords, some apples and eight cherries.”

When you’ve achieved almost everything with The Maccabees, where can you go next? Hugo and Felix White faced up to the challenge head-on, formed 86TVs with their brother Will and drummer Jamie Morrison, and relished the challenge of having to prove themselves all over again. Their debut album lived up to expectations, with a surge of critical acclaim complemented by a host of strong Official Chart positions, including #3 on Album Sales, Physical Albums and Vinyl Albums. Now 86TVs share an extended version of their creative vision for the album as its Deluxe Edition comes to streaming platforms.
The band initially recorded the music for their debut in a batch of twenty songs. “We’d made all this music for years by the time we went in with Stephen Street, and loved so much of it,” says Felix White. “We had to stop ourselves putting it out as a double album.” Re-focussing their energy and streamlining their first effort instead, some other music now has had the chance to see the light of day. “It’s a cool thing to put some more of the collection out because, as brothers that all write songs, it only takes a few songs each before there’s quite a lot of music, and so much of it could have easily been singles or made the record.”
86TVs have proven to be a force in the live arena, with highlights to date including two sold-out headline tours, shows as guests to IDLES, Noel Gallagher, Jamie T and Editors as well as festival dates spanning the Isle of Wight and Truck to Tramlines and Y NOT?. This mont sees them embark upon their biggest headline run to date.
