Charlotte Planks release live show fan favourite ‘Stargirl’

BRIT-nominee and UK breakthrough singer and songwriter Charlotte Plank has released her anticipated new single, ‘Stargirl’.

‘Stargirl’ was written and performed by Plank, was produced by Jakwob and finally sees an official release having long been regarded as a fan favourite when Charlotte has performed it live this year at her shows and festival appearances.

Of the themes, lyrics and music that make up ‘Stargirl’, Charlotte says: “I wrote this last year about finding my feet with music while still fighting an internal battle and crazy imposter syndrome where I’d ask myself: Who am I? Do I deserve this? Some of the lyrics go back to the time when I was daydreaming about what I wanted, but not doing anything about it other than self-destructing, because I thought it wasn’t achievable.

For example, the lyrics: ‘Wanting hills in Beverly but I’m splitting pills of ecstasy…called her a dreamer cos she didn’t have a daddy with a Beemer’ – Very visual lyrics translating how I felt at different points in my life and different reasons as to why I’ve questioned how I’ve got to where I am. But there’s never been a plan B and I still pinch myself everyday that I get to create and write music that resonates, comforts and soundtracks people’s lives… from the commute, to the rave, to overthinking in their bedroom everyday as a job?!”

CHarlotte continues: “Stargirl explores the contrasting genres and worlds that have inspired me growing up, from Aphex Twin to The Cure to Amy Winehouse. It doesn’t sound like anything else I’ve ever heard – which is what I want my sound to be- chaotic but comforting, Nostalgic yet new and unique. It’s kind of an ethereal, dark fairytale, coming of age take on dance music. And it’s just the very beginning for everyone else to see the world of sounds and storytelling I’ve been building internally.”

To celebrate the release of the new single, Charlotte has also today announced her brand new live dates, to take place across the UK this November in Edinburgh, Manchester and London.

Since being nominated for the ‘Song Of The Year’ BRIT Award earlier this year for her track with Rudimental titled ‘Dancing Is Healing’, 23-year old Charlotte Plank has been non-stop. Hard at work writing and recording her own solo material while gracing festival mainstages across the country, she performed multiple times at Glastonbury Festival – something of a full circle moment for her, having been brought to the festival at a very young age by her mother many years ago.

‘Stargirl’ follows Charlotte’s previous single ‘Nightshift’, which sampled the legendary track ‘Superstylin’ by Groove Armada. Prior to that, her breakthrough singles include Top 40 hits ‘Green & Gold’, ‘Rave Out’ and ‘Dancing Is Healing’ – her UK Top 5 hit single with Rudimental.

Charlotte’s star has risen in a remarkably short amount of time, owed to her unique pairing of pop-skewed vocals and songwriting with harder underground drum & bass and 90s rave-inspired sounds. Coming from the Loud LDN collective which has given rise to several prominent new female artists such as Charlotte Haining, Piri and Venbee – Plank has been featured on numerous prestigious Ones To Watch lists including the NME100, Dmy’s Most Exciting Artists For 2023, The Independent’s 10 new music acts to watch in 2023, and MTV’s Push 2024 artists to watch for the year ahead, with co-signs and champions of Charlotte’s courtesy of BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Mixmag, GQ, Zane Lowe and Elton John – who just premiered new single ‘Stargirl’ on his Rocket Hour Apple Music show.
