Cassia and Kawala join forces on the ultimate indie collaboration 'Circular Motion', the latest taste of the former's upcoming EP release - out tomorrow.
The new track is the fourth piece of their eclectic new puzzle and a key element of upcoming EP Home Soon…, which promises to be a sonic collage of their recent expeditions to new writing locations and experiences with new collaborators. The EP artwork is based upon an everyday fridge that you would find in a busy kitchen, covered in magnets, postcards, pictures and anything fun collected over time giving insight into the bands touring life, travels and where the EP songs were written.
Cassia and Kawala’s collaboration came about after the two bands met at Barn on the Farm last summer, and a couple pints in, the bromance started to blossom. A writing session later, the resulting track is everything you’d come to expect from two of the UK’s most feel-good bands- rhythmic and understated with bright toplines and harmonies, working together in synergy for a track that is an instant classic.
Effortlessly bouncy and capturing joy in its purest form, plucky guitar melodies, playful drum grooves and nifty bass-lines all feed into the blissful charm. The two band’s blend their sound with ease, with each new breezy melody feeling even more optimistic than the last. Rich, sunny soundscapes bring you out of the autumn gloom within moments, and leave your world a little brighter.

On the new single, Cassia shares: “We first got to know Kawala after a very messy night at a barn on the farm and it wasn’t long after that we got in the studio together. Somehow in and amongst all the coffee fuelled chaos we managed to come away with circular motion.
I remember the beat and the keys riff kicked things off then we started pulling lyrics together.
“The words are loosely based around the theme of life cycles, in summary the meaning of the song is; Sometimes in order to get off on the right track you might have to follow the less travelled road, getting lost can sometimes reveal a fresh perspective that you didn’t know you needed. It was definitely a conscious decision to keep this song upbeat, looking back on it now it really wouldn’t have been possible to come up with the next John Lewis advert judging off the amount of energy that was in that room. We can’t wait to play this tune at festivals together and it feels so sick to be releasing music into the world with good mates.”
Since the release of their 2022 album Why You Lacking Energy?, frontman Rob Ellis has spent time writing in LA, Cape Town, London and Berlin with a host of collaborators, piecing together the band’s new chapter, whilst maintaining the core Cassia DNA.
Elaborating on the collaborations, Rob explains: “It’s the first time we’ve really gone out of our insular bubble. Usually we would write alone in our rooms. Now we’re getting friends and different producers involved.” With the songwriting process becoming increasingly open and synergetic amongst Cassia and other artists, we can assuredly say there will be some exciting new sounds on the upcoming EP.”
