Welcome to "Sport Playlists VS.", the new feature that sees our team go head-to-head with our artists in predicting results every Matchweek during the 2025/26 season.
During the 2025/26 Premier League season, each matchweek will see the team at Sport Playlists predict the results of five games against one of our artists. These will include four of the big clashes in the English top flight, along with the game involving the side that the artist supports. Correctly predicting the result of a match will score 3 points, while correctly predicting the result and scoreline of a game will score 5 points. We will keep track of all the results in a leaderboard.
Matchweek 6 saw Ben Rooke of Regent predict two correct results and score 6 points. Taking us on in Matchweek 7 is Tom A. Smith. Check out his predictions in the video below.
The fast rising North East artist and passionate Sunderland supporter is already becoming one of the UK’s most promising songwriters having played Glastonbury, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and supported a who’s-who of modern British rock from Sam Fender and Catfish and the Bottlemen to Elton John. Last month saw Tom release his latest EP, Say What You Want via Fiction Records, showcasing a maturing, evolving artist in full creative control. You can listen to the latest single from the record, ‘I Don’t Blame You’ on Mackems Music – our unofficial Sunderland AFC playlist – on Spotify.
For Matchweek 8, Tom has gone up against the team at Sport Playlists in predicting the results of: Nuno Espírito Santo’s second game in charge of West Ham away at Arsenal; a fierce Saturday evening clash between Chelsea and Liverpool; Everton hosting high flying Crystal Palace; The latest test for new Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou at Newcastle; and Tom’s beloved Sunderland travelling to Old Trafford to face a beleaguered Manchester United.
